Supporting you during occupational therapy

To help you meet or exceed your rehabilitation goals, our therapists take the time to understand your current condition and apply appropriately individualized treatment techniques for your occupational therapy, including:

  • Physical such as personalized exercise programs that emphasize regaining lost or reduced function
  • Neurological such as perceptual training, and use of adaptive equipment following a stroke
  • Musculoskeletal such as custom splinting to protect the affected joint(s) during the healing process

Our occupational therapy process

To meet with an occupational therapist for initial evaluation and treatment, you will need a doctor's prescription. Once you have been referred, your Advocate occupational therapist will:

  1. Conduct a thorough skills assessment to evaluate your current condition, your rehabilitation goals and any limitations
  2. Design a personalized occupational therapy plan that includes an exercise program
  3. Fit you with a customized splint, if needed, to help you regain function and prevent re-injury
  4. Work with family members to educate them about your injury and recovery, to help reinforce the work done in occupational therapy and promote better outcomes
