Experts who understand and programs that make a difference are at the heart of behavioral health services provided at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital.

Addiction services

Good Samaritan Hospital's Addiction Services program uses a multidisciplinary approach to treat addictions. Structured programs assist adults with overcoming their dependency on alcohol and other drugs and develop solutions to their abuse and addiction-related problems. Programs include:

  • Dual Diagnosis
  • Crisis Stabilization
  • Ongoing Recovery, including multiple support groups.
Programs are individualized to meet the patient's needs, and relapse prevention is an important aspect of all programs.

Adult services

Our multidisciplinary teams offer assistance to patients with depression, schizophrenia, bipolar, anxiety, other psychiatric diagnoses and dual diagnosis. Recovery advocates, people in recovery from mental illness or with a family member in recovery, are part of the treatment team.

Individualized programs focus on education, symptom management and coping skills. Levels of care include:

  • The Inpatient Program focuses on short-term hospital care for stabilization and crisis management.
  • The Partial Hospital Program is a therapeutic, structured, daytime program as an alternative to inpatient care or transition from inpatient treatment; patients return home in the evenings.
  • Outpatient Therapy is available on an individual or family basis.

Outpatient psychiatric services

Good Samaritan Hospital's Center for Mental Health's Outpatient Services include the following:

  • Comprehensive Psychiatric Assessments
  • Outpatient Therapy to assist individuals in dealing with difficulties in their lives. Programs include individual therapy, family/marital therapy and group therapy.
  • Caregiver's Support Group that focuses on issues specific to family and friends caring for an elderly loved one.
  • Other Organization-Sponsored Support Groups
  • Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapy for treatment of patients with depression.

Our goal is to provide compassionate care through services structured to support the patient's return to the community. Treatment teams, including psychiatrists, case managers, nurses, counselors, social workers, occupational therapist, activity therapists and chaplains, work collaboratively with the patient and family around the following elements:

  • High-quality treatment in the least-restrictive environment
  • Most effective and cost-efficient care
  • Referral to outpatient therapy, support groups, partial hospitalization or inpatient crisis stabilization following a psychiatric assessment
  • Case management which promotes continuity of care between levels of treatment
