Specialty pharmacy prescriptions

Find a pharmacy
If you have a complex disease such as cancer or multiple sclerosis, your Advocate Pharmacy team supports you in managing your specialty medications. We’ll connect you to specialty pharmacy resources and collaborate with your care team to provide comprehensive medication counseling, insurance help and more.

What does a specialty pharmacy do?

Specialty pharmacies do more than just fill prescriptions for complex conditions. They help manage your specialty medications and empower you through education and support. We partner with Aurora Specialty Pharmacy to offer:

  • Prescription insurance benefit assistance: Often, there are high costs associated with medications for complex diseases. We help you get your medication at the lowest possible cost by explaining your benefits, helping you file your claims and assisting with medication authorization. • Coordination: We’ll coordinate with your care providers to ensure dosages and any potential drug interactions are reviewed by both your care team and our expert pharmacists and technicians.
  • Education: It’s important to understand the educational materials that come with your specialty medications as well as side effects, interactions and dosages. We’ll help you navigate and understand the details of your medication plan.
  • Medication delivery: For your convenience, your specialty medications will be mailed right to your front door. Your upcoming refills will also be monitored to make sure you get your next shipment in plenty of time.

HIV medication

If left untreated, HIV can lead to AIDS. Specialty drugs include antiretroviral therapy (ART), which, if taken properly every day, can dramatically prolong the lives of people with HIV.

Multiple sclerosis medication

A combination of interferons, immunosuppressants and monoclonal antibodies may be used to reduce multiple sclerosis (MS) episodes. Specialty medications may also slow the progression of physical symptoms. Learn more about multiple sclerosis.

Osteoporosis medication

With specialty treatments such as injectable and anabolic drugs, you can stop the progression of osteoporosis. Counseling on proper nutrition, appropriate exercise and lifestyle changes are also offered. Learn more about osteoporosis.

Psoriasis medication

Pharmacists will match your type of psoriasis with a specialty medication based on the severity of your condition and your health history. A common treatment is systemic therapy, which helps to suppress the immune system.

Rheumatoid arthritis medication

Specialty medications for rheumatoid arthritis help with pain relief, inflammation and disease progression. Your dosages and any potential side effects will be carefully monitored by pharmacists.
